While we recognize how blessed we have been to have our apartment for so many years, we also recognize that there were certain aspects of our childhood summers that were completely foreign to our children: running around chasing lightning bugs at sunset, eating popsicles on our stoop, learning how to ride a bicycle, splashing around in a kiddie pool, drawing all over our driveway with sidewalk chalk (okay, Randy and I never did have a paved driveway in our youth, but it's still part of the quintessential kid summer), and so on.
We've been summering it up now that we have a home to call our own:
Me? I've been savoring the washer and dryer that don't require any quarters to operate, and having an actual pantry in which to store the massive amount of groceries that a family of six consumes each week, and having the kids be able to run around outside even after Randy's taken the car to work in the afternoon.
Sure the mowing is already a herculean task. And we have a home project list that grows more quickly than it shrinks. But it sure is nice to be home.
