We embarked on our first family vacation of the summer earlier this week, knowing full well that we had more on our agenda than time would allow. Our first stop was a night at Nana and Grandpa's. The kids immediately wanted to go swimming. Shortly after arriving, the sky opened up and a downpour began. The children thought it was awesome.

After a family dinner, we went to our favorite ice cream place in town. Then we tucked ourselves into bed in anticipation of the next day.
We left Nana and Grandpa's as soon as Grandpa had finished stuffing us all with breakfast. (He always makes sure that we don't go hungry, or even slightly peckish.) We drove down to Richmond and spent the afternoon at the Science Museum of Virginia. There's so much to do there; we even got to watch rats play basketball!

Then we headed to briefly check into our Airbnb and went straight to dinner at Randy's favorite BBQ joint.

We worked off some of the dinner at a pirate-themed putt-putt. G kept score for us; I could see them plotting from behind the scenes. I think S won, but I suppose we'll never really know for sure.

With a little room in our bellies, we visited a beloved snow shack before finally returning to our Airbnb. The first day was a success.
