A Less Typical, Typical Summer Week

After returning from our Gettysburg extravaganza, we settled into a week of regular summer fun. I had the week off and was determined to make it a good one for the kiddos.

N decided to get her hair cut. We spent the morning running errands and just spending time together. She carefully picked out pool toys and then requested matching mother/daughter shirts for the fourth of July. We finally found a shirt that we could both squeeze into (and I will definitely have to squeeze, as I had to buy a girl's xxl for myself).

C attended several cooking camps that he was gifted for his birthday. He brought home delicious treats and insisted that we all try them. S met a friend for chess at a local farm's cafe and I took the younger children strawberry picking while we waited on their game. Then we all headed to a fun, free movie at a very old theater. The kids had a blast and Randy was able to meet up with us for the movie (and more importantly was able to join me for tacos afterwards).

G returned from her trip (oh my goodness, I missed that cantankerous child) and we had an evening with Nana before she had to go home. On Thursday, C got an invite to join a friend at a local amusement park and he spent the day off on his own adventure. N met a friend for a playdate later in the day. I cannot think of the last time my kiddos have been so social. With two parents who each work more than one job, playdates are a rare treat for the kids.

On Friday, we went to pick up two very cute, but very ratty, rats. G welcomed them home to a very nice and expensive cage, decked out with food, toys and all the extras. The cats are licking their chops as we speak.

They are actually pretty cute

Then I took the other three kiddos to the pool for a bit.

On Saturday our neighbors put on a fireworks show and we grilled our first corn on the cob of the season. We gorged on watermelon and frozen push pops. Ahhh...summer food is just so tasty!

This week was all about summery fun with and for the kiddos and while we couldn't do all the things, I feel like we crammed as much as we could into the time we had.
