We have concluded our season of kid birthdays for the year. It's a moment that I simultaneously relish (because planning and executing birthdays can be exhausting) and lament (because they are growing too fast).
Our season always starts with S. This year he turned 14. For his birthday, he got to watch PSU basketball in person. At six foot one inches tall, this child now looks a lot older than 14. This kiddo is the king of dad jokes and pretty much still a bundle of energy.
Next arrives our eldest's birthday. This year she turned 16. We wanted to do something big, but that's not really her style. Instead, with the help of her guitar playing grandpa, we found and gifted her a lovely acoustic guitar. Now she is able to practice at home and not just during class. She requested her favorite pizza for her birthday dinner and we celebrated together in a way that best honors who she is, with a homage to her favorite dark tv series.
Now when N's birthday arrived, she was over the moon excited to plan her first real birthday party with friends. She picked an Animal Crossing theme for her gathering at a local children's science museum. The kiddos had the best time and N got to do what she loves best...be with her friends.
As the hectic school year finally came to a close, we carved out time for C to celebrate in the midst of the end of the year madness. This year, he decided to invite a couple of friends to a local ball game. The weather was beautiful, and he and his friends ate their way through the ballpark.
I cannot believe that we are sixteen years into this parenting thing. What an amazing journey. What amazing kiddos.
