One of the hazards of being a tag-team parent (or any type of parent) is that there is not a lot of free time in your schedule for taking care of yourself. Needless to say, Randy and I weigh quite a bit more than we did when we were married 7 years ago. To motivate ourselves to lose some of the excess, we came up with a plan: We each have three months to lose as much weight as possible (healthily - no crash diets allowed). On December 26th we will hold a final weigh-in. Whoever wins gets $500 from our savings account to spend however they want - and the other spouse doesn't get any input!
We bought a bathroom scale and weighed in Monday evening. Now it's on! R is going down. He has to lose 1.5 lbs for every pound I lose in order to win. (This approach evens out the playing field for several reasons, one of which being that I am a nursing mother and have to take dieting very slowly and carefully.)
Of course, we're having a bit of fun with this but the reality is that this is important on so many levels. We need our health and energy to keep up with these kids. I never want to not be able to run around outside with them because of my weight. So even if I lose the contest (which I won't!), losing the weight is going to be an excellent consolation prize.
