We have entered a new phase of Baby C's development.
Last week I had to go on a business trip. It was only supposed to be from Sunday until Wednesday morning. I headed out of town leaving the kids in good hands (their Daddy's) focusing on what I was going to accomplish over the next few days.
Baby C became enraged.
How dare Mama leave me for three whole days?! Who cares if I can use a sippy cup?! I want my Mama and I am NOT going to drink a dang thing until she comes home!!
Randy calls to tell me that Baby C is refusing all liquids. No formula, no water, no thawed pumped milk, no juice, nothing. Give it some time, I say, he'll come around. As I am saying this I hear Baby C scoff in the background: "I will NOT come around!" (He didn't actually say this, but I'd be willing to bet money he was thinking this.) The baby eats plenty of solids though, so Randy was stuffing him full of applesauce, chicken soup and other moist foods.
On Monday evening I start to feel poorly myself and begin to realize that I must have a little stomach bug. By Tuesday morning I feel rather wretched, Baby C is still not drinking and is having too few wet diapers, and Randy has reached his threshold. I worked through lunch until the early afternoon, got in my rental car and began to head straight for home, abandoning my original plan to stop overnight at the half way point. I got home just after midnight on Wednesday morning. Baby C showed his appreciation by gently patting my arms and face while he nursed. What a stubborn booger!
During my absence he also perfected a new skill - the temper tantrum! Just try picking him up when he does not want to be held and his little arms shoot straight up in the air and he drops his weight to the floor, while screaming in protest. Does he not realize that he's not supposed to hit this phase for another 6 months?! He also has an excellent "fake" cry now. Trust me, it's not real and I find the early attempt at manipulation alarming.
Baby C generally hits his milestones ahead of schedule, but this is definitely not one I am writing down in his baby book.
